I took glucosamine-chondroitin for the last 3 years of my MO life before my

April 11, 2001 RNY. It " kicked in " after three months of taking it daily

(1600 mg of one, 2000 mg of the other) and it worked wonderfully well.

Although I walked differently due to be severely obese, my knees ached

occasionally but did not hurt constantly. I actually think it slowed down

further damage to my knees because after losing the first 50 pounds after

WLS my knees no longer hurt at all. I am currently pain-free unless I

overdo it, which for me means trying to run for more than a few minutes on

my treadmill. I can walk all day (such as during my visit to Disneyland

last December)with no problems at all.

My orthopaedic doctor approved heartily when I told him what I was doing.

He said he had many patients trying it and he knew of no negative side

effects.

The only reason I ceased taking it after my surgery was the size of the

pills and my own post-op skittishness about my stoma. However, chewables and

powdered form are now available in my area (central Indiana).

Thank you all for the feedback and exchanges on this site. It has been

comforting, humorous and informative. Life's best to all of you.

108 pounds lost / 70 to go.
