Start screaming for a LITHOTRIPSY!!! I have had the procedure 2 times and it

is awesome! My Dad has a huge scar from removing a kidney stone . . .I have

had the stones since I was 23 and pregnant the first time. The lithos were

in 95 and 99. I probably should get checked out just to see. Usually once a

stone maker always a stone maker . . .

Start screaming for a LITHOTRIPSY!!! I have had the procedure 2 times and it

so that they can be passed easily without pain . .. It is done under a

twilight anesthesia and valium . . .it not painful at all now that they have

great new drugs. The first time I had it, it was so painful they couldn't

complete the procedure. The second time was a breeze. First time I had

stones I was pregnant and got very sick . . .kidney infection and

hospitalization . . .second time I was in the hospital for 4 days with a

kidney infection too. When I ahd the lithos I was not symptomatic . . .

Debbie,

I don't know why you are getting kidney stones either. The docs at rocky

Mountain Associated physicians in Utah say that unless you are getting

at least

50 ounces of water a day they don't want you to start your calcium yet.

The reason being that if you aren't drinking enough water and taking

calcium you can be more prone to kidney stones. Kidney stones are

comprised of calcium. I had a stone in December. oh they are no fun!

Fortunately it passed. I have been very dilligent in drinking my liquids

since. I have only one kidney so was a very dangerous position for me to

be in.

Talk with your physician about if this is could be your problem. I was

told to double my water intake to like 100 ounces.....man did my teeth

float.

Barbara, Thanks....I don't think I have been getting enough fluids...I

had had an UTI the week before, but had just finished taking my

antibiotics on Sunday. Then WHAM!!! Here I am in misery. Sooo NOW I am

pushing water...not just any old fluids...and I am floating. Sheesh ...

Can't there be TOO much of a good thing? (Only kidding)

The urologists (too bad I know more than one, huh? What does THAT tell you?)

that calc citrate is the " treatment of choice " for oxalate stones. I know

nothing about uric acid stones. But for most of us, it's oxalates.

That's the brown liquids I am always whining about. Cola, tea, coffee, caff

or decaf. AND the best green leafies, spinach & stuff. Sigh. There's your

UNLESS you make it 4 yrs. Then you go back to the same risk as the normal

population. I'm 4.5 yrs. HOlding my breath, holding down the brown things,

to a minimum.

If the stone has already started down, though, they cannot blast them. If

it's too big to pass, as Don's was, they have to fetch it. Through the

natural opening.

Practice doc said that tea prevents the formation of stones) NO coffee

What about broccoli? I mean spinach is one of my FAVORITE veggies...but

Well.......when you consider that people in Seattle consume more coffee

per capita I am in SERIOUS trouble. I already miss my latte!!!!!!I can

usually take or leave diet coke. But when that is all that is offered

and I don't feel like water......what's a girl to do? OK...so I feel

oxalates showing in my urine, AND had problem, AND the uro told me to switch

to citrate to prevent the oncoming train of kidney stones AND stop with the

brown & green AND I didn't do it.
