Guest guest
Thanks for asking. Now, I want to say that a complication such as this one is EXTREMELY rare, in fact, when trying to find help and advice on my sister's condition, her Dr. only found one other person in the US that had something similar. Now, I am sure there are more people, but it's still a VERY low percentage. My sister had WLS (not sure which one), the surgery went fine, with no complications. In her recovery they found that the food quite literally went right through her, undigested, and would end up in the form of raw food, while having a bowel movement, usually within 30 minutes of eating. Thinking this was her body getting " used " to the surgery, they let this go on for quite sometime. I believe her starting weight to be around the 400 LB range and at her death she weighed around 120-130 lb. She was eventually put on TPN and remained on this for 2-3 years, which it is not designed for. She had collapsed veins everywhere and had MANY infections from her lines. At one point, they reversed her surgery and that did not provide any help at all. Sadly, about 5 years after her surgery she died on Thanksgiving Day. She had been in the hospital for the previous week with an infection that went to her spinal cord. She had times when she was lucid and wanted to live, but we had to tell her she wasn't going to make it. The ironic thing was, she said she would have done it all over again...which I understand and I don't at the same time. The goD that my surgery was successful. Any question just ask. Jeanese M.
