I had a CT Scan before each of my two supplement WL surgeries. No

problem at all. Nor did I have a problem with the Upper GI series which

required me to drink the barium cocktail.

Hi Terri:

I have had two CAT scans since having my wls and each time it was

through the ER at our local hospital. I had to drink two 8 ounce cups

of the contrast, but made sure to tell them that I couldn't drink it as

fast as a normal person because of the size of my pouch. Neither time

was there a problem. They let me take as long as I wanted to. With me,

as soon as I finished drinking the contrast, I had to wait for 90

minutes to allow it to travel throughout my body and then have the CAT

scan done. Both times, they allowed for all of this.

My advice is to make sure well ahead of time that the people who are

doing the CAT scan know about your wls and the fact that you have a much

smaller stomach and can't drink liquids as fast as the normal person

can. This way then they can make the necessary allowances for you so

that you don't have to feel rushed and can take your time. The stuff

you have to drink doesn't taste real bad - sort of a salty, iodine

taste. Just be upfront with them and just tell them you can't drink it

down real fast or you will become sick.

Good luck with your scan and let us know what the outcome is.

I did one last summer. I had to drink it ahead, at home, then more there.

They just allowed more time.
