hmmm.. my guess is that the weight gain might have a little more to do with

800 calories per roast beef sandwich than a protein shake.. IMHO

I am a little over two years post op. I do not take any protein

supplements unless I want to gain weight. I get all my protein from

food. I eat a lot of yogurt and Arby Roast Beef sandwiches.

If protein shakes are made with water and ice, and not lots of added sugars

like milk and fruit, they will NOT put weight on. If you're using the

proteins designed for weight gain, then you'll put on weight.

Since you're so " into " research, perhaps you should consider looking into

physiology and anatomy and you'll see why it's physically impossible for us

to get enough protein from food. We can't digest it because our stomach

acid is in the lower portion of the stomach, so even the most proximal of

proximals can not absorb a reliable amount of protein. With the restriction

of the tiny pouch, it would seem ridiculous to me to try to stuff in enough

food to get enough protein for my body to live on. I don't think that even

if I ate constantly, I would get adequate protein.

Glad you're doing so well. I did well until 6 years out. Everybody is

different, but I have learned the hard way. I crashed and burned from lack of

protein. Recovery is definitely NO FUN, and I wouldn't wish it on anybody.

Hopefully in 6 years, 10 years, 20 years, you'll be doing well without protein,

but knowing what I know now, I'm not willing to take that chance.

Have you compared your preop labs with your current labs? If you see any slight

dips in any lab values, that should be your FIRST warning sign. Don't ignore

it, like I did....
