Annette:

From what Gray the rehab Tech tolded us. The Quickie G424 that he thinks that Fred should have, will have a chair that will tilt back. That is the one thing that he said would help to keep him from pressure sore's and he said that now Fred can adjust himself, but at sometime he may not be able to, and that he will ordor the wheel chair with the tilt seat. I'm glad you said something about it, I forgot all about that.

Take Care

It's me again...putting in my two cents.....or 7 years

experience.....about wheelchairs.....when it was time for to

give up on the walker because he was falling too much I went to the

local medical supplier and he was going to order a Quickie...already

had it approved by our insurance...think it was going to cost about

6,000 but the Lord provided a Physical therapist that knew something

about what we had ahead of us (so much more then anyone we had bet at

that time) and she put her neck on the block and contacted our

insurance company and had them stop approval and wrote up a very

detailed explaination as to why needed an invacare motorized

chair that tilted....of course had the added complication of

diabetis but one very strong argument for the tilt feature was the

danger of pneumonia and pressure sores that result from someone not

moving for long periods of time....which is the case with the

progression of this disease......our insurance approved the 16,000

chair instead of the quickie based on the information that she

provided to the doctor and the insurance. Oh, yes, part of the

argument was that he could change his position himself (which he did

for many years), I still change his position for him many times

during the day...it has enabled me to get him in the best position

for swallowing with a bent head and had made it possible for him to

be up and in the chair during the day and for him to travel even

though he is totally immobile now!........I just wish that everyone

that has this condition could have the same type of chair....I would

suggest that you at least try to get one like it....all they can say
