Guest guest
Thank you to everyone who answered my questions on blood donation and bone marrow testing after wls. I just thought I would let you know that I did call BTC today and they told me that since I am at least 1 year out (13 1/2 months to be exact) that I can give blood as long as my iron count is normal. But I do need to tell the blood donation place that I have had bariatric surgery so that they will pay very close attention to the iron test that they do administer prior to giving blood. As far as the bone marrow testing goes, same rules apply with the iron count. Their main concern is the fact that we are very prone to anemia and giving blood is very hard on our systems, so they would actually prefer to have our iron levels on the high side if we are going to be regular blood donors. So I guess I will wait and see what my blood work shows this week and then if I can, go back to being a regular blood donor and see about being tested for bone marrow. But I will have to keep a very close eye on it. Hugs, Jerri in MI
