Guest guest
Oh yes Bill, many nurses and doctors could use a little more knowledge about dealing with the human side of life. It amazes me. My daughter is one of them. She thinks everyone is dumb but her. She has rethought the doctor issue though too. She does know some are super and some only think they are, much like the rest of us. I had lots of nurses in my classes as they had to go through me to go on and many had little knowledge of dealing with people and feelings. They knew how to deal with the facts and that's all. There comes a time when we all have to be able to put ourselves into another person's shoes and see things from another perspective. At the same time I know it's hard to deal with feelings every day. One has to stay somewhat detached or suffer daily from dealing with too much. It's a balancing act. I learned in the hospital there are some real b.......... working there and of course a few of those docs were a real piece of work. You are so right about asking questions with the reasoning of wanting to learn something. Most docs are more than willing to point out how and why. The younger ones much more so now than the older ones because they have been taught how to get along with people a little better. Another piece of information I learned while working in the hospital with patients was that a little extra TLC will get you a long way with most of them. I had many who would sit and wait for me to get to them instead of go through the shorter line of admissions and registrations because they wanted to work with me instead of someone else. They knew I would give them anything and everything I could and bend over backwards to make sure they had forms and copies of everything they needed and they also knew I made many a trip to their rooms after shift to make sure they had signed everything and had extra copies for their files at home. They also knew if something wasn't there, I had been known to make a trip to their homes or make phone calls to pick things up for them. When I left the hospital last year, I discovered there had been a major uproar with the administration over why I was no longer there at the front desk and they still get questions about why I'm not there. I guess I must have been doing something right. Stay warm Sally
