Yesterday was one of those rare days for me when it did NOT pay to listen to

my body. Or, at least, I didn't listen well enough to understand what my body

was saying.

My son is a competitive baseball player and so I am at tournaments almost

every weekend these days. I was out in the sun most of Friday and all day

Saturday and Sunday. By Sunday I was feeling really run down and out of

energy - VERY unusual for me. I get tired now and then but nothing like this.

I thought " I must be hungry " and so I ate some sunflower seeds. Nothing. I

ate a protein bar. Nothing. I ate some of the meat from a 's junior

burger. Nothing. Still totally wiped out. (This was over a period of a couple

of hours.) I drank the one EAS ready made carb control shake I had in the

cooler. Still nothing.

I had had all my protein as usual that day so I knew that wasn't the problem.

I kept looking around for stuff to eat to see if I could feel better. Then I

happened to get an ice cube out of the cooler and absentmindedly put it in my

mouth. As soon as it started melting on my tongue I knew. I WAS THIRSTY!!! As

soon as that water hit I got dizzy I was so thirsty. By then I knew I was

dehydrated - I had been drinking diet coke and not thinking about water.

It's a whole day later now and I still can't get enough water. I am still

drinking water every minute and have to make myself stop to eat or have a

protein shake.

It's just so WEIRD that after all this time I didn't recognize thirst and

dehydration for what it was. I would have kept eating stuff all day - or just

passed out - if I hadn't happened to suck that ice cube. Amazing. So drink

your water!!! And I will too.

hugs,

Ann
