Hi Everyone:

I have been a lurker for the past year, but can now officially

post. My name is Jerri Grogan and I live with my husband and my

daughter in the metro-Detroit area. I had my open RNY done on August

15, 2001, with Dr. Neil mor at BTC in Yspilanti, Michigan. I

can't believe what a difference a year has made in my life! I started

at 410 lbs. and now weigh 255 lbs. for a loss of 155 lbs.

I have learned so much over the past year from this group and know

that I will learn so much more. My biggest lesson was in what type of

calcium is best for us (thanks Vitalady!) and I had a bone density

scan done a few months ago and it showed I am in the high normal

range, so that was good. Getting in my protein and my liquids

everyday is still something that I work at, but my lab works have all

come back great, so I know I am doing something right.

Right now I am recovering from colon surgery due to diverticulitis

disease that I have suffered from for over 10 years. My wls didn't

cause the problems, but in my case it made it slightly worse as I

wasn't getting in the fiber I needed or the liquids, so I ended having

to have surgery or risk further problems or worse. But my doctor has

told me that having the wls actually helped me as I am recovering much

faster and doing much better than I would have at 410 lbs. It's also

nice to have a surgeon who is familiar with wls and who knows what we

need and don't need.

Anyway, I just wanted to say " hi " and to tell you all thanks for

the past year and all the wonderful information I have learned from you.
