Box 352 Benson, NC 27504 (919) 894-7406 JOB ANNOUNCEMENT PEPE Project Coordinator Background PEPE [Pesticide Education to Prevent Exposure] is a 12-month project of the North Carolina Farmworkers’ Project [NCFP]. PEPE is designed to implement the safety program developed in the PACE [Preventing Agricultural Chemical Exposure] project to provide direct education to famworkers and to develop the skills and knowledge of at least three farmworker leaders who will be trained as safety promoters. PEPE will also identify other farmworker leaders for future promoter training. Description of Position The Project Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing each aspect of PEPE. S/he will: 1) with assistance from current Farmworker Project staff, select three farmworker leaders to be trained as safety promoters; 2) train the safety promoters to a) become pesticide safety trainers using the PACE model, and understand and utilize the dynamics of effective community education and organizing; 3) provide safety training to farmworkers in Sampson, ston, and Harnett counties with the safety promoters; 4) supervise and mentor the safety promoters; 5) conduct evaluations of the direct education effort and the safety promoter training; and 6) change the training curriculum or methodology as needed to meet better meet the needs and desires of the trainees. The Project Coordinator will also work with the other Farmworker Project staff and board members and will consult with the PACE team members at Wake Forest University. PEPE training will, to the maximum extent possible, be integrated with other events at the Farmworker Project, such as films and meals and celebrations, to set PEPE in a more culturally comfortable and inclusive atmosphere. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for adhering to the PEPE budget and for submitting timely reports of work done and expenses incurred to the director of the NCFP. Qualifications: Ability to work independently when needed yet collaboratively with others, ability to mentor and develop others; and fluency and literacy in Spanish required. Proficiency in English, experience as a farmworker or working with farmworkers, experience training adults or experience in community organizing preferred.
