Guest guest
Greetings Janet! I also use a BiPAP unit. It's interesting that you also require a BiPAP unit, and not a CPAP. It's unusual for someone to need BiPAP. Even more so that several of us on this newsgroup need BiPAP, not just CPAP. I use the Respironics Tranquility Bi-Level: http://www.respironics.com/patients/sleep/tranq_bilevel_1.html Respironics makes two other BiPAP units, one is below: http://www.respironics.com/patients/sleep/bipap_lx_1.html Also, one way to keep the cost of the unit to a minimum is to use The CPAP Store (an online healthcare service provider): http://www.cpapman.com/bi-level.html If you must pay for the unit, this may be a viable alternative. BiPAP units normally cost a LOT of money. As a result, a BiPAP unit may be more cost effective through the Internet. Many of the questions a new user has can be answered by the fellow that runs the CPAP store. But either way, you can use his site to compare and contrast the features and costs of the units. Hope this helps. Regards, =jbf= B. Fisher

Guest guest
-I have been using a BiPAP for the last year or so, initally for apnea dx after two overnight sleep studies. I tried a C-PAP at first, but it was uncomfortable because it essentially dictated my breathing rhythms. The BiPAP adjusts to your patterns and feels much more natural. A key accessory is a humidifier with heat control; it makes an enormous difference to be able to warm the air you're breathing at your own comfort level, and likewise to control the humidity level. I can't say I wake up 'refreshed,' as is often stated, but on the other hand I do sleep better and probably benefit from more REM sleep time. It also, incidentally, stops snoring cold, if that has been an issue for you and a significant other. (One slight aesthetic matter is that you will bear a startling resemblance to Hannibal Lecter when the mask is on. If you haven't used one before, a quick pass or two in front of a mirror will help adjust you to what otherwise might dismay you and any others who see you. Just mention fava beans and a nice Chianti to lighten the moment.) Most insurance programs cover either PAP, I think; mine has been covered by Medicare. Tony in Boston -- In shydrager@y..., " B. Guest guest
Hi Janet I graduated from cpap to bi-pap. Cpap actually made matters worse. If you can try a number of masks, nose or full faced, and different manufacturers. A leaky mask is useless and one manufacturer made my face look like an aerial view of the badlands.
