So what is STevia?

I like to bake as well and am trying to cut the calorie intake for my daughter

and grand children (hyper little monsters.... heheheheh). I know Wal-mart here

doesn't carry it either... I guess it just hasn't hit here yet... *sigh*... out

in the boondocks here, I guess... LOL

I'll start inquiring for it...

Thank you,

Betty

Re: So what is STevia?

Betty,

I did not like Stevia when I bought it in the store, in fact I threw it away.

However it is the sweetener used in ProBlend 55 protein powder and I like it

just fine in there.

Forgive me if I'm confused (it happens SO often) but I think it was you

asking earlier about Splenda. It has been widely available just about

everywhere for a couple of years now. It is in a yellow box and packets, you

know...sweet n low is pink, equal is blue, and splenda is yellow. You will

find it right there at WalMart or just about any grocery store. I like it

much better than any of the other fake sweeteners. I have not bought the

sugarlike stuff everyone raves about. I may have to break down. It has been

cold and rainy all week and I've been on a cooking jag. I LOVE to cook. All

summer I've been satisfied to drink protein shakes and ignore the kitchen,

but when cold weather sets in I just love to putter around in the kitchen,

and if I don't have a pot of soup or beans on the stove I just ain't happy!

My baking bug has been biting me all week and I know I can't use real sugar,

may as well splurge for the holidays and get some of that stuff from Vitalady.

Have a great day.

What does everyone think about Stevia?

I like it fine for sweetness, but have yet to find one that has any kind of

shelf life, or will hold up under heat. I got some stevia powder packets,

and in the Washington humidity, even in a cannister, they turned to paste.

Tried another brand, same problem. Also if it's added to really hot food, it

seems to lose its sweetness. I needed 3 or 4 packets to get my tea or coffee

sweet enough, whereas 1 packet of splenda is plenty.

I can't use it as sugar either. But I take 2 tablets a ay to curb sweet

cravings.
