Subject: Re: OTC Med question...

Dear Shelby I've thought about your situation with your friend alot since

yesterday, and I see you have received much advice here on list, most of it

very good.

I just want to say keep an eye on mom about whether she can take care of her

daughter adequately, for a 14 year old needs much, vigilance in all things

espeically. If mom cannot get adequate food into the house or supervise

daughter's safety or whereabouts --that points toward the mom needing more

help than you by yourself can give her.

No one will be writing any letters to any doc unless you say go, so don't

worry about that. No one wants in any way to interfere in your friend's

privacy. However, if in your best judgement, you think your friend is in

danger, as other astute people on this list have noted, starvation and

malnutrition stymie the cognitive processes and may cause a person to not

realize they desperately need help or intervention--then you do what you

think is necessary, including bringing in social services to bring a team

approach to these many problems.

I am concerned Shelby about anyone in such poor condition as kidneys can shut

down (death), heart arrythmias and coronaries can occur (death), heart

infections can take place, brain swelling can occur, all complicated by

malnutrition and electrolyte imbalances amongst other things. I wonder if

there is any way you can speak to her pcp to get him/her on board with the

protien feedings, just to clear it with her doc who we would hope has

carefully weighed all the challenges she is facing, including ESPECIALLY how

all her meds interact with each other.

I heard your prayer request, and I am answering. I will be raising and

her daughter up to be healed in best possible outcome.

Please take good care of Shelby.

And denise and judy d.-- good work.

love,

ceep
