Guest guest
Hi Deb, My comments (and this is MY opinion) is that you need more protein shakes. ARe you drinking them now? Also, your iron is a bit low, I would be sure you are taking iron. Do you know what your hemaglobin was preop? Do you know what your protein and albumin were preop? Guest guest
> Uric Acid 2.8 mg/dl 1.7-7.5 This one raised my eyebrows -- my Uric Acid went up like that when I was having bout's with gout (big toe pain) and followed by symptoms of a UTI -- but it was not a UTI it was Uric Crystals I was passing -- cause was too many processed meats (beef jerky for me... LOL) I cut it out and the levels lowered significantly - plus, no more pain. hugz, ~denise ps: your protein looks on the low end too.. how does it compare to your 18 month labs? Rising, lowering? About the same? It's so hard to " see " whats going on when you don't have your previous #'s to see if they are going up/down or staying about the same

Guest guest
Hey Debra - I'm at work and don't have my last set of labs with me for precision, but it's amazing how very similar our labs are. Protein, albumin, calcium, iron, hemoglobin, hematocrit, TSH - all of your numbers are close to identical to mine. As a result of those numbers, my PCP has increased my protein supplements to 3 daily, added an iron supplement, and we've changed the calcium intake to 2000 of elemental (spread out over 4 times a day). We'll test again after 3 months. She was very concerned about these numbers. In my case, she thought my low thyroid was a lab mistake, so we'll see when we run them again. I did note that your B12 is extremely low. If you're not taking a sublingual supplement already, I'd add one right away! Kate

My eyeopener on all this came just after a shrink wanted me to start all kindsa meds whereupon I immediately gained 20lbs, stopped the wacko meds (btw that is a trait of my diagnosis, LOL) and stopped gaining. I did however, have labs done at that paticular time frame and my B-12 was on a long slow slide and had dipped below 400. I had been doing sublingual tabs. It had a caveat on the lab report itself stating that although " normal " ranges were a bit lower than this, that in some people levels below 400 had been associated with some fairly drastic mood flucations, emotionals, etc. I know I have not phrased that right. That did it for me! I had a verbal fist fight with the surgeon about it but he did give me a script for the injections, I have done them ever since and now maintain a level around 600-700 and have not missed the wacko meds. Some others might think I need them tho! LOL! Might be worth a looksee! Dan Slone Surgey 5/2/2000
