Guest guest
The article on drinking water was interesting. I think we need to use common sense, and listen to our doctors. On one hand, our systems may need more water then average, and I know I am less hungry the more water I drink. On the other hand, it would be nice not to obsess on how much water I'm getting in all day (not to mention less trips to the bathroom, which is like my second home on some days!). Also, here's an interesting item from this month's Men's Health magazine, which I think might pertain to all of us: " A high-protein diet may help you build muscle and burn fat, but it can also leave you dehydrated. Researchers at the University of Connecticut compared groups of athletes eating low-protein and high-protein diets and found that people on higher-protein diets store less water in their bodies. This is an important finding, because dehydration can significantly impair an athlete's performance and even to do damage to his heart. But researchers say high-protein eaters can avoid problems by drinking more fluids, at least two to three glasses more than the recommended eight glasses a day. " - so, this may be why our doctors stress the importance of water for us post-ops. Helene RNY 12/22/
