Ordinarily I am not one to make a fuss about staying on topic, but my mail

box is being inundated with these 9/11 remembrance things -- I'm on 47

lists, so we're talking a LOT of mail, and it's amounting to spam from my

point of view.

Now I know that the folks sending out these things are well-meaning, but

please, 9/11 will be hard enough for many of us to get through, and I don't

think we need more reminders flooding at us in the next few days.

Thanks for understanding....

Lyn, I don't recall seeing one single post of 9/11

subject on the graduate list. So perhaps you should

confine your message to the appropriate lists. I

understand your feelings on the subject but people are

going to handle this day in different ways. If it is

this upsetting to you, maybe you should consider going

no mail for a couple of days. Many people feel a deep

need of expressing their grief on this anniversary.

As many of the folks on the graduate list have been

together for quite some time, they feel emotionally

close like a family and need to reach out to each

other during this very emotional time. I hope our

list is not barraged with 9/11 messages but it is made

up of all different people from all over the country.

If you are on 47 different lists, it is probably a

little unrealistic to hope you regulate that many

different people's emotional needs on such an

important day in our country's history. Perhaps if we

all agree to list any posts on this subject as off

topic in the subject line then those who don't want to

read them can delete.

Perhaps one was sent to me by someone on the list -- it had the graduate

header in the subject line.

It's not upsetting to me. I didn't lose anyone, and was not directly

affected (at least not any more than any other American, or citizen of the

world for that matter.)

What I was attempting to do, as politely as I could, was to ask that people

not send on all of these chains and memorials that I am starting to receive

by the score. The only lists I posted this to were the OSSG lists I feel I

am very familiar with (didn't realize I was considered not part of the

family here). I was only attempting to pre-empt any further barrage of these

things on the few lists that really matter to me.

If people would prefer to post these things, and say that they are off topic

and related to 9-11 in their suject line, that is fine with me.

It would be nice to see peace in the places that matter most to me.

Lyn, I didn't mean that you weren't considered family

here and I believe you know that. This is how crap

starts and anyone who has read my posts knows I am

here only to gain and give support to everyone. I was

only suggesting that because this group (including

you) does feel very connected emotionally that some

may feel the need to express their grief here. I

think asking everyone to identify this topic in the

subject line was a good compromise. Please don't look

for innuendos where there are none.
