Guest guest
Sorry about the crosspost, but felt like venting on both lists. I believe I mentioned before I was going to a new clinic for my next bonescan since my insurance had dropped the contract on the old one. Well, seems it was a very good thing this happened. You'd think I'da gotten a clue when I went in for my second bone scan there, and they bold-faced told me that they couldn't even get a reading on me the previous time due to my being so over weight...(in excess of 300 lbs.) But, where did the glowing report of my good bones come from that went to my doctor from their radiologist, I'm still wondering about? So, I figured, we had one bad experience, it isn't going to happen again right? Wrong!! I posted my wonderful results of my last bone scan...which sue looked at and confirmed that they were normal. I was happy...even though they had showed a loss of bone from the previous " scan " that didn't happen! So at that time, I decided to run an experiment on myself..and really up my calcium, taking it throughout the day...almost hourly figuring it would in a years time at least keep me level and not losing any more bone. Scene changes to new clinic...and I'm told by the tech that my " bones really rock!! " Amazing for my age and circumstances...I'm still happy!! Then we go to the wall where she measures my height. I've lost 1/8 of an inch in just a years time...hmmmm...what's this about? Well, I'm not worrying yet...maybe I just wasn't standing up so straight. Seems she does three measurements...which it turns out, is a good thing. First she did my wrist. Then, I hopped up on the table, and she did my spine and my hip. I waited for the computer to spit out my results. The readings on my spine...still look great...but hold that thought....I show osteopenia in my hip and in my wrist both! An extremely dramatic drop for just one year's time...even in her mind in the worst of circumstances. I had my results with me, and she asked to see them again. Seems this other bogus lab...my words, not hers, as she was careful not to malign them...didn't even run the test correctly!! What was measured, wouldn't give them a correct reading at all...but would take my pelvis into consideration..and give the computer a higher reading! Also, upon looking closer at my spine...it is obvious that it is extremely calcified with osteoarthritis...and is more than likely giving a false reading...and she feels the radiologist will probably throw out that reading altogether! So, the sum of all of this is...I have and have had osteopenia all this time when I felt I had good bones..and my doctor had it reported to her that I was just fine. How dangerous are these people anyway? Two skewed tests in a row...for me...what are they doing to other women out there? You can believe my doc is going to get an earful!! I have to wait for her to read my results and hit the ceiling..and call me on the phone...which she will do, later this week...you can say...I am just a little bit on the angry side about this. What if I hadn't taken that little difference in the false readings as seriously as I had...as most people would not have...and taken the corrective measures that I did when I did? I don't even want to imagine! I don't even know what my purpose is in posting this right now. Nothing any of us can do because we are at the mercy of whoever it is that reads these things. You'd sure think they would note that something wasn't right. I neglected to get a copy of the first report...and now wish I had...wondering if it is the same radiologist...and why did my insurance company drop their contract...I have lots of unanswered questions going around in my head right now. Sorry to have bent your ears..(eyes) for so long...but just had to do some thinking out loud here. Thanks! Regards~ Jacque
