I am not a doc, but I do know that Ambien was developed to be short acting--that is, it wears off after just a few hours. It is a great drug for those who can't fall asleep, but that's not your problem! You need a longer acting drug--I have no idea what that drug might be-I suggest you check with your pharmacist as to the different sleep meds and which ones are short/long acting, then tell to your doc what you have learned and ask him to prescribe one of the longer-acting pills. One side note--the long acting pills do make some people feel loggy in the morning--that's actually one of the reasons Ambien was developed--it wears off well before your morning wake up call! Maybe the pharmacist can help you find a drug that is longer acting, but not so long acting as to make you groggy in the AM--if there is such a drug!
