Dear Bobbie,

It turns out it took 3 1/2 hours for the barium to make it to my small

intestine. Most people take 2 hours maximum. My pouch and staple line is

100% intact. I have a 3 cm hiatal hernia (from per-op days).

The reason I have reflux is because the food or liquid is taking a very long

time to get down to my small intestine. After meeting with my surgeon (RNY)

he said the reason for the problem has nothing to do with the GBS (open RNY).

I am also in chronic back pain and wear fentanyl (narcotic) pain patches. I

am scheduled for surgery on August 21. I have been on these patches for 9

months now.

So, until I get off of the pain meds, I have to live with the gas,

bloatedness, vomiting, difficult digesting all foods. I cried when I heard

all of this and have now accepted the facts as they are.

For now, I will not lose more weight, at least I am maintaining. I am

looking forward to my spinal surgery and the next step, getting off of all

pain meds. Then my digestive system should return to near normal. If it

doesn't I will see a gastroenteroligist.

So that's my story for now. I have never done well with protein shakes.

Ever since I did Optifast in 1990, they make me gag. So I am eating eggs,

cottage cheese, cheese, peanut butter, beans, well-cooked chicken and beef,

and a lot of fish.

How are you doing?

Take care, Randi
