Guest guest
My 13 y/o son (with Aspergers) has been on Zoloft for treatment of OCD for 5 years now. The psych had worked him up to a whopping 250 mg a day. When he wanted to add Seroquel (anti-psychotic) I finally decided it was time to try some of the alternative interventions I had been reading about. We have been on Houston's enzymes for a little over two months now with good results. I also added Super Nu Thera w/p5p after a month on enzymes, and just recently added Super Nu Thera Everyday Companion and TMG w/folic acid and B12. I have been keeping a diary and trying to add things in slowly so I can monitor the effect. I have also been gradually decreasing his dosage of Zoloft. He is down to 100 mg a day now--the lowest dosage he's been on since he was ten. The TMG is supposed to increase seretonin so my plan was to use this as a substitute for the Zoloft if possible. I wish I could get his doctors to help here, but they are not open-minded about this sort of thing. I have recently noticed that my son is having trouble sleeping at night and he is more irritable than usual. I'm sure that reducing the Zoloft could contribute to this (and the fact that he's thirteen). I did decided to stop using the Super Nu Thera for now on the advice of some on this board. What is really surprising to me is that his OCD symptoms have not returned yet. I was fully expecting them to show up after a time on the reduced Zoloft and then I would have slowly increased the dosage until the symptoms stopped. I'm hopeful that the TMG is helping here but I was wondering if the enzymes increase the effectiveness of medications. I would think not since Devin has said they don't interact in any way. Anyway, here are my questions: Has anyone else tried substituting TMG for an SSRI? Have the enzymes alone helped anyone with OCD? Has anyone here had experience with being on an SSRI for so long (5 years) and then stopping? The doctors were basically telling me this was going to be a lifetime med for him. Has anyone else had any success treating OCD with other alternatives? I appreciate any help! Thanks, Laurie
