I visualize MSA as the brain on Windows, runs best one task at a time and

new software is often needed. Question is for how long can you keep

reprogramming until there is nothing left to work with? Barriers to

retraining have to do with available resources (PT, ST, home care, care

giver, tools such as a wheelchair or hiking stick) and the level of

exhaustion preventing doing as much as is ideally needed. Then

there's all the psychological stuff, most of us seem the type having

difficulty admitting to ourselves and others that we are less than

capable of being fully independent.

Silently, I would love a wheelchair, it is so exhausting to put forth a

competent facade where the body feels utterly intoxicated. People

are so bloody rude when they make the assumption you are drunk or

something. Then there is the stuff that comes with the wheelchair, having

to move residences, for instance, or having no one to push when the

strength to do it yourself fails you. In no way is this helped by

people telling you " but you look well " , letting you feel that

you are the big baby you are already kicking yourself for being. I rarely

can spare the energy to explain what's wrong and just let it go.

Ray, I hope you're bouncing back, don't wait so long next time (although

in honesty, I know I would do the same).
