Guest guest
Dear , Congratulations on your weight loss. 155 lbs is suberb! I give you a lot of credit for the awareness of your eating habits. It is great that you realize your eating habits need improvement even though you are maintaining your weight loss. I find every day a learning experience with WLS. I am always trying to improve things as well. Since you are interested in increasing your protein, why don't you start with protein shakes and protein bars. GNC has great protein shakes called pro performance. They even have a 20% discount plan there if you buy during the first week of the month. They sell protein bars there as well. Personally, I would rather have the protein bars over candy since they make me feel good. The Balance Gold protein bar tastes the most like candy out of them all. But it only has around 15 grams of protein. I like the Designer Whey protein bar a lot. When I buy them, I read the labels and I look for the most protein per calorie. A good protein bar has around 30 grams of protein and roughly 270 calories. I usually have my protein bars in the late afternoon. I think that keeps me from eating too much at dinner. I usually have my protein shakes before bed. That keeps me from eating junk before bedtime. If you start to snack on high-protein items such as protein shakes and protein bars, you will probably stop snacking on the junk. I find that no matter how much junk I eat, I get hungry again ten minutes later. I hate that feeling of being hungry again so I try to eat the protein. If you like cheese (like I do,) then you would like my egg white and cheddar omelettes. I eat them every day. I spray the pan with Pam spray oil. I place four egg whites in there. I throw the yolks out. When it is cooked, I place an ounce or so of cheddar cheese on top. Then I fold it in half. Each jumbo egg white contains 8 grams of protein and is only 15 calories each. It is a wonderful way of getting protein. Recently, someone in this yahoogroup wrote about success. They said that the successful WLS patients they have observed always consumed 1 gram of protein for every pound of body weight. Therefore, if you weigh 170, you should ideally consume 170 grams of protein per day. I am 5' 10 " and weigh 170. I feel better on the days when I consume 170 grams of protein per day. Therefore, that formula seems to make sense. I wish you continued success and good luck with you upcoming surgery. Take care, Shoshannah
