Folks,

I had a ventral hernia repair and abdominoplasty on August 8th. I am

just over 10 weeks out. My recovery was unremarkable and rather

swift. I can even survive a sudden deep sneeze now with a minimum of

pain.

On Monday, I had walked a few miles around an exercise trail in a

nearby park, and I tried to see if I could do a chin-up (I couldn't).

In the process of trying, I felt a bit of a strain in my stomach

muscle, and I dropped off the chin-up bar immediately (easy, since I

was, at most, only 1/2-inch off the ground!). On Tuesday, I started

to feel stiff in my abdomen, with slight pain, when I arose from a

chair, all the more so after having been seated for a long time. By

Wednesday, the pain was worse. I felt every step when I walked,

though the pain seemed to subside a bit after I had walked a while.

I was afraid that I may have reactivated the hernia, or, worse, that

I might be getting a strangulated intestine--nothing like being

overly dramatic about pain. The plastic surgeon was not in on

Wednesday, and because the pain seemed to ebb with walking, I felt

that it was not the intestine, and, most likely was torn scar tissue

(adhesion), so I felt no need to go to the ER.

By today, the pain had subsided quite a bit. But, I still went to

see the PS. He told me just what I had hoped to hear: I had torn

some scar tissue, but, there was no recurring hernia. 'twas a pretty

straightforward case of " no strain, no pain. " WHEW! Dodged a bullet.
