Namaste, M Weight Loss Surgery - Advocacy Ontario 102-31 Greengate Road Guelph, Ontario N1H 6R3 www.wls-ao.ca http://www.wls-ao.ca> mab@... and kristina@... ** M I S S I O N S T A T E M E N T ** To promote well-being and healthy lifestyles to both pre- operative and post-operative patients of all Weight Loss Surgery (WLS) Procedures performed in Ontario To educate and inform the general public, medical practitioners, and the Ontario Ministry of Health of the necessity of WLS, without bias or prejudice. To educate the citizens of Ontario about the dangers and consequences of Morbid Obesity, and of the available life-saving alternatives. To bring informed scientific data to those in need. To increase availability of the tools and resources that are necessary to win the war against obesity. To Whom It May Concern: We would like to notify you of an upcoming event that has never ever taken place on Canadian soil. We are hosting Canada's own First annual " Weight Loss Surgery Advocacy Ontario Conference " at the Sheraton Fallsview Hotel in beautiful Niagara Falls, Ontario. As you may know Weight Loss Surgery has recently had some media attention. We would like to see the subject get more media coverage and we would like the public to become educated and informed about the Weight Loss Surgery procedures that are currently available and the results that can be and have been achieved. Many of our health problems all but disappear. People who were once disabled and housebound are now productive members of society. These people some of whom were on pensions and Social Assistance are now paying taxes. The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care wants to cut these programs and have already started. Our organization is dedicated to preventing any more cutbacks. Morbid Obesity is a disease and everyone deserves treatment. We are dedicated to bringing scientific data to the public and the media with the people to back it up. Please refer to our Mission Statement. My name is Moira Barber I am currently 1-year post- op and have lost 105 pounds. I have had complete reconstructive surgery including Abdomnioplasty and Bilateral Reduction Mammioplasty. My business associate a Gallant is 2 years post- op and has lost 155 pounds and has also had Abdomnioplasty. We started this non-profit organization to bring awareness to the citizens of Ontario, as we would like to see an increase in such programs as Dr. Grace in London, Ontario and Dr.Parekh in Guelph, Ontario, Dr.Ian on of Toronto, Dr. Yau of Toronto and Dr. Joffe also of Toronto. There are a few other surgeons that are currently performing WLS procedures all around the province. Our dream is to see people be treated for the disease of Morbid Obesity and be able to live their lives to the fullest. We understand the difficulties associated with Morbid Obesity we were just that and have overcome many challenges. We invite you to interview us along with some of our volunteer post- ops and pre-ops that are associated with our organization for an article or news file-special. Please visit our website at www.wls-ao.ca http://www.wls-ao.ca> please keep in mind our website is changing daily as we grow. Please ask us how we got where we are? We are more than interested to tell you our story and tell you all about our plans to fight Ottawa on this issue. Sincerely, Weight Loss Surgery Advocacy Ontario Moira Barber and a Gallant Founders and Directors
