Sally,

I'm not sure what exactly the problem is for your mother. In my

case dexterity as far as closures go is one and stability is

another. I rarely have swelling, I do get blue feet because

bloodflow is inadequate. So:

I like my footwear wide enough to allow my toes to grip and wiggle,

which helps both bloodflow and stability

Ankle boots which fit me tightly through the ankle add stability and

keep my ankles from folding (like =jbf=)

In summer I wear sandals (to disperse heat), staps should be elastic

and wide (as not to bind), the sole wide and grippy for stability - to

feel pretty my toenails are well looked after and nicely polished

Insoles should conform well to the feet and not leave room to wobble

or collapse

Formula for heel height - twice the height of the instep at its

highest point eg. 1/2 " x 2 = 1 " heel, and the heel should be

the breadth of the shoe (narrow pumps are for sitting only)

I find sneakers are too gushy soft and that makes me wobbly

I no longer have the coordination to keep slides and slingbacks on my

feet - they're out

Regular shoes are just too much work to walk in, they sit on the

shelf unless I am going somewhere with someone to lean on for balance

Once you have footwear that works it is well worth it to get them

repaired and resoled. When I can afford it I buy a second pair

exectly the same in case they stop making them. Fortunately I am no

slave to fashion.

Price does not seem a factor, either the shoe works or it doesn't but

I've found them at $10 - you just have to hunt for them

I hope that helps a bit.

Shari;

I suppose mostly I found it difficult to decipher what the question

was. Did you mean sickness as in cold and flu?? Or

complications such as pneumonia or UIT's? Or symptoms such as

irregular heartbeat, fluctuating blood pressure? I have pretty much

stand alone Shy-Drager, no tremours, no dementia. If they found a

way to put my autonomic functions back as they were meant to be, I would

be just fine. Could you let us know what concerns you have, and

then we would be delighted to address them. None of us know what to

expect day to day, the variances are great, but on pretty much anything

at least one will have experience, and be glad to share.
