Guest guest
Hi all! I need some quick replies please -- Has anyone with MSA had problems with kidney stones? Several years ago Ned ended up in the hospital for about 10 days with a temperature of 101+ degrees. They could not find a cause -- finally a scan showed a rather large kidney stone, a course of antibiotics was given, a stint was placed and lithotripsy eventually done to crush the stones. All seemed well. ------ until recently. Back last fall, Ned began having blood in his urine and an intermittent fever. This went on for a couple of weeks. He was treated for a UTI twice in a short span of time (2 different antibiotics) and his urine cultures came back negative. He then had a bout with severe diarrhea (in hindsight was probably caused by the antibiotic). Then about 10-12 weeks after the first " UTI, " he passed a stone, his urine totally cleared and he seemed fine again. Now for the question -- He has passed (since he's cathed several times a day, the stones are usually in the opening to the catheter) 5 ---- yes I said 5 !!!! stones during the last 7 days. Has anyone else had a problem with kidney stones? I know the ensure and milk he drinks may be contributing to the problem if the stones are calcium based, and his immobility from being bedridden adds to the problem, but I'd like to know if anyone else is having problems with K. stones. Thanks in advance for your input. I plan to call the doctor tomorrow as the stone he passed today was painful (evidently it was protruding from the tip of the catheter just enough to " scratch/cut " into the urethra as he now having a large amount of blood in his urine every time I cath him). Any info would be appreciated. Our doctor is very understanding and eager to listen to what I have learned from this list. Judy & Ned.
