Guest guest
leslie..you are the winner. your diagnosis of my friend's complication was correct. i spoke to her yesterday, and she said that the opening from her old stomach to her intestine has closed up (possibly swolen from her recent rny surgery). they are draining it via a tube and will dilate it, if necessary after 4 weeks of wearing the drain. so, even though the closing of our stoma entry is a common side effect of this surgery (requiring an endoscopy), this is quite uncommon. her dr. said it is a first for him. now, about that dr....she asked him about why he put her on slim-fast and fruit juice (non diluted) and he told her " I DON'T THINK SUGAR IS GOING TO BE AN ISSUE FOR YOU " ....what a comment..considering dumping is one of the 3 ways that this surgery (rny) works. one of the nurses on the floor gave her some protein recipes. i asked her what she was eating in the hospital and she said broth and jello. i asked her if the jello was sugar free and (we all know the answer to this one, right??) she said no. i decided to drop the issue until she got home (today). i am tired of policing this dr. i am 2yr 8 mos out and i feel like i just had surgery with all of the questions and ignorance. anyway, for all of you lurkers..do your homework..my friend thought she did, until she met me. i hooked her up to the big group and to this one, but i think she only joined the big group and hasn't even begun to read it all. she doesn't know about diet, vitamins, etc. she keeps asking me what i eat. i tell her anything i want, EXCEPT, for sugar. then she doesn't even question the jello...sigh so dr, leslie...thanks for the diagnosis. you grads are so smart..i knew i could get the help here. love, peggy
