Guest guest
Hi Rita the amout bypaased has nothing to do with the b12 or iron, its the lack of left part of stomach and therefore low/ to no intrinsic factor that is to blame re B12 and iron absorption. The osteo is a whole other thing in general ,and has to do with the calcium levels, No reson to throw away your vits, but thats not your style anyhow. BUT, its not your bypass that did it, it your pouch! Gee we can pick on all different parts of these surgeries when we get around to it! Very complicated surgeries that effect our entire bodies for out whole lives, and with good habits we can choose to as you say, become very healthy for the next 50 years. But then there are the people who do go back to eating Big Macs meals regularly afterwards, and dont take the suuplements they could take to maintain or improve their health, proxies, distals BPD, all others, even bandsters!! But not us!! Munch munch! That was a chewable vitamin.. :)aDria Message: 11 Date: Sun, 14 Jul 2002 00:43:02 -0000 Subject: Re: Iron Anemia? It seems that even short proximals lose the malabsorbtion of the CALORIES after a year or so but as for needed vites and supps,, HAH that's what we don't seem to start absorbing. Figures. For me, I have been taking all my supps since day one and have had no problems. I know others with the exact same rny as me, 50 cm bypassed, and stopped taking supps and guess what, they are dealing with..... pernicious anemia (lack of b-12) iron anemia and osteoporosis. Anyway, for me, I keep tabs on my labs (rhyme intended BG) and my goal is to remain healthy for at least another 50 years.
