Guest guest
Darn it Vita, The stomach doesnt digest nutin, it just moves it around like a washing machine and breaks it down smaller, saliva startsit all thats why they say chew chew chew, so what ever we dont take the time to CHEW with our teethand saliva, the stomach or now the pouch cleans it up, think of the pouch as a mini basket insted of the big washer, add the bleach, we are missing the most of the acid, and the intincic factor so the vit problem in the iron, B12 and fat soluables is real cause we cant break it down, also hard to store them, so adding some C for some acid or bleach does help a bit. Also the chewing and the saliva, AND NO DRINKING~~~ Ok... follow our very WELL Chewed little shrimp or potato piece on out now.....it hopefully sits in the pouch for awhile. then dribbles into the guts, especially if you dont OVERSTUFF THE POUCH AND FORCE WHAT YOU JUST ATE OUT. Again I do vit C with every meal, OR shake...plain ol chewable C, yum yum, 500 orange one, and no liquids to wash it out, not even with shakes. Add a Fobi band, and you get a bit of HOLDING TIME " in my case. But if you dont overeat, alot of us have holding time. The proxy bypass.. a bit of malabsorption sure but here I go again, refreshed AFTER THE ASBS ....time and time again, no matter who I talk to and now matter where I go here in NE, AFTER the ASBS conference these surgeons ALLcome back fresh with NEW info and babbling and thiking on their feet drawing diagrams and they WONT give in to too much malabsorption in a proxy, certainly enought to let you lose waeight and maintain loss, but nowhere is there any reseach that backs up anything about alot of nutrtional problems THEY are saying that if I STILL have that critical part of the duadenal-jejeanal interface where everything meets and has a JUICE SQUIRTING PARTY INTO THE INTESTINES, then I am indeed NOT malabsorbing alot of crtical nurtients that I need, and if I am its cause I am NOT eating a healhty post op meal plan on a regular basis @3 years post op and have gone back to some sloppy ways MORE OFTEN THAN I WANT TO ADMIT... And you know what...THEY are right, yeah, Im still doing fine, sitttin here in my size 8s, wating to go into size 6, but I HAVE gone back to sloppier eating more and more, the longer Im a post op! Its just not as clean as it was last year, AND i HAVE TOP ADMIT IT SOMEWHERE like this board where there are people who understand, cause they can identify with it. I hear other peoples stuggles and have lots of compassion for them too, different struggles. Some food ones are right on out there, mine is much more subtle right now, 2 months ago stuck at home with a broken leg it was more like the old days, but i knew it was going to be ok again, I know Ill never be fat again. And some people have chosen to remain larger than smaller, and are at peace with it, and thats great too if they are. But for me, the subtle sloppy creeping in of my bad eating habits keeps me on my toes now , I see it happening, can feel it in my gut immediately, and it doesnt feel emotionally rewarding. Being honest with myself around food, eating for the right reasons, at the right time, the right amount, trusting my body feelings, understanding the difference btween thirst and hunger, not playing tricks, honoring real hunger, accepting where I came from around food abuse and honoring where am now helps, but...it all just takes time. I could be meore rigid with myself about it, but ive tried the ever all embracable way. Its sometimes real hard and the group of docs and nutrutionists consult with dont mince word with me. Yhey have no ax to grind, this is truly their belief, they stated it in Las Vaaga and will continue to state in in MA and all over the country, Ive also learned that for me, sticking with the people who have the same attitude around what are primary post op goals is important. When i want to learn how to play tennis, I need to be around better tennis player than me in order to get better at tennis. I also need to be around a person serious about their weight loss in order to get my weight where need it to be. I learned that real quickly and continue that even now. I can reach ourt and help others who are struggling with diffewrent stuggles, and that helps me keep my head and feet on the ground, (especially when one foot cant even bend ), but as someone said to me recently, some sturggles just escape me, I suppose, different ones escape different people. Ok rambling on here...Im gonna commit to going back to eating more purely, cause if i cant do it this time of the year Im in big trouble!!! Fesh everything growing out of the ground all around me for the next three months. This is not the time to stock up on Ben and jerrys ice cream on sale! Rather it is the time for fresh farm local peaches, berries, best corn on the east coast, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, squash, all of it.... Im gonna try to continue to recoginze the difference beteen thirst and hunger especcialy in the summer, and to drink lots of liquids. And to commit to continue to use the protein shakes both for easy protein suplementation and also to help me with my appetite, and thats fine. Cause I dont ever wanna be fat again, not even acceptable fat, and thats fine too, I love being size 8, and having the goal of going back to being a size 6 is fine too :)aDria 310/125/115 panni @115 Message: 8 Date: Sat, 13 Jul 2002 16:09:03 -0700 Subject: Re: Iron Anemia? The popular myth is that proximals are not malabsorptive, only distals are. They taught it at the conference, even. I do not concur for the reasons you said. Without a stomach (digestion vat), there is no digestion, ergo absorption is pretty hard to manage, no matter how long the common channel. The problem areas will always be AT LEAST: protein iron calcium A, D, E zinc B probably potassium & magnesium when the others get whacked.
