Guest guest
Hello, I've been lurking for many months but this is my first post. I am 15 months post-op (Open RNY 4/9/01). I started at 278 lbs, size 26 and with diligent exercise have gotten down to 172 lbs, size 10/12. I try to stay off the scale because the numbers still bother me; I never really had a specific goal other than to get rid of so many health problems and they're all gone, so I'm happy about that. I exercise 4 or 5 times weekly at a gym (high impact step aerobics, treadmill, weight machines--love the tone/definition of my arms & legs, I can live w/o TT if I have to, not too unsatisfied with how it looks). My main staples have always been beans, chili, deli ham, cottage cheese, peanuts, beef jerky, chicken, fish, and tons of water. I can eat just about anything, I just prefer to stick to those foods because I always feel satisfied. My concern/question: In Feb I saw a nutritionist and got weighed on the Tanita scale. I was a size 16, 183 lbs and body fat was 29% (YEAHHH, only 2% above average). Yesterday I asked to be weighed at the gym on the same type of scale. Here it is 5 months later, after much more exercise and slowly losing the lbs, I'm a size 10/12, 172 lbs and the stupid scale measured 37.5 % body fat!!! IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE??? I want to say the scale was wrong (but it was right in my weight because I know that's what I weigh). Could it have been wrong in it's calibration? I think in February they used my height as 5'4 " and yesterday they put in 5'3 " would that have made that much difference? I don't want to stress too much over this because I feel simply awesome, I feel terrific, never had so much energy and never felt so ALIVE!! I will be forever grateful to GOD and my surgeon for giving me my life back and if I never lose another pound, I will be very happy. I sure am going to do my best to stay on track and keep it from going up. Anyone have any answers on the body fat??? Estela in TX Open RNY 4/9/01 278/172/150 (??)
