Guest guest
I went yesterday to get the results of this years bone scan. Bad news and I just don't know why since I think that I'm doing all the right things at all the right times. Had a bone scan (real one, dexa) last year at the this same time just five months after surgery. Not too bad but some osetopenia in the hips, so I was feeling pretty smug going into the consult yesterday because I am doing 2000 mg. of Vitalady's super calc with boron, mag., and Vita D. I take extra mag away from the calc as well and I work out at a gym three times a week, circuit stuff- aerobic mixed with resistance machines. Since losing 100 pounds I now park away from the stores and walk the parking lot- on purpose! So was I ever shocked to find that I am still losing bone. Not a great amount but still it's worse this year than last. The bone doc says, Fosomax- uh,uh, says I, not gonna burn up the pouch if I can help it. Save the big guns for last is my philisophy. He says, well, there is a nasal spray but it won't help rebuild bone, just stop the loss maybe. But, says he, some side effects in some people. Great, says I, I love side effects- I try out all of 'em every time. I have a appointment with my PCP to discuss options since the bone guys says not to increase the calc without consulting with PCP. By the way, I am on HRT and have been since hystie in '96 and just about 8 months ago increased the dosage. I don't think that I was absorbing it well, hot flashes returning and mood swings were back. So I'm kinda stumped here and am looking for input. What are you all doing to shove the calc into the bones? (I might also mention that thanks to all of you the bone doc was very impressed by how much I already know about the function of calcium and the role it plays in bone health. I guess that we are about the only population that is very aware of boron and mag. in conjunction with the calc.) Thanks already for your help.
