I was watching an infomercial on television the other night. They

were advertising a calcium supplement whose principal ingredient

was calcium glutomate (sp?). Has any one heard of this?

Thanks

I saw the same ad. It's calcium GLUCONATE. Of course this chiropractor who's

hawking the stuff says it's the best absorbed. I am sitting here with two

separate reports from professional journals re documented studies that say

calcium citrate malate (CCM) is THE best absorbed of all the calcium

compounds. So right there is LIE # 1. The next thing this guy says is that

calcium citrate is " from sea creatures, you know, like oysters and things. "

Ahem. I do believe calcium from oyster shells is calcium carbonate, not

citrate (but feel free, anyone, to go ahead and correct me if I'm wrong).

I think we (posties) are so hung up on getting the " right " stuff we go off an

a tangent anytime someone says they've found the best, the only, the right,

the......whatever. There's even a postie out there who's hyping (another

powder into liquid like this CalMax infomercial) HER own fave, which of

course, she sells. Which just happens to be " a bit more expensive, but well

worth it. " Yah. More expensive bcuz it's a MLM product and everybody gets a

cut of the selling price.

Give the CalMax a pass. Or if you wanna find out more, at least call and find

out what the ratio of magnesium to calcium is; what percentage is elemental

calcium; why he's added vit C into the mix; and why he's left out vit D. For

my money, it's not a product I'd be buying. And remember, he's not selling to

WLS'ers, but to the general population.
