Guest guest
Dear Group, I returned from Seattle last night to the Denver Airport where I had lost Tom one week before. Our three children had been with me throughout the week to help me finalize things and get ready for the memorial service. We had a Celebration of Life Brunch on Saturday morning at a restaurant that looked out over Puget Sound. I had about 40 pictures of his life I had enlarged to 8 x 11's that we put up around the room. I gave a summary of his life and then his children, colleagues and friends shared memories and deep felt emotions. Tom was an innovative, progressive, but more importantly, an extremely caring physcian - he was a Radiation Therapist who treated cancer with radiation. He established the department at the hospital and it became the best department at the hospital - leading all others in patient satisfaction. The theme of his always thinking of the other person, his crazy humor, his love for adventure and for food - particulary sweets, his love and giving nature to his wife and children were known by everyone and mentioned by everyone. I left feeling so gratified that it had gone so perfectly. My deepest thanks to all of you who contribute, I do not want to leave anyone out but I must mention Bill and Pam. Tom always asked " What did you learn? " I got important info on meds which gave him relief, on research which provided him hope, and it gave us both a feeling of connection that there were many others out there that understood this horrible disease. Keep up the good work, my thoughts are with you.
