I agree, that strawberry sorbet looks yummy!

Here is a list of SCD themed food blogs I love to look at. Just double check

that they didn't accidentally use a non-SCD ingredient:

http://heal-balance-live.blogspot.com/

http://milkforthemorningcake.blogspot.com/ (only use the recipes marked SCD)

http://scdgirl.blogspot.com/

I also look at some gluten-free blogs that are very easy to convert to SCD.

WARNING: You might need to make some conversions on these recipes (ie.

substitute honey for agave nectar & ignore the chocolate)

Now I just need to get around to trying more of these yummy recipes!

, sorry I haven't replied sooner...we were on vacation.Okay...supps and enzymes...I halted them entirely to do the intro as cleanly as possible (my DAN doctor didn't care one way or the other so I was given the all clear to do as I saw fit). Then, once I had introduced a few more foods I intro'ed enzymes to help digestion, waited about a week (I was being cautious...when I am not cautious with my kids' tummies I regret it!) then intro'ed probiotic, then a week and added omegas then a week and magnesium (my oldest tended toward C and it helps with that, plus it helps metabolize the B6 and calcium, then calcium, then B6, then selenium b/c he is very, very low, then zinc and vitamin C...the other two don't get most of these, but they do get the enzymes with every meal (but not snacks) and probiotics too. I never stopped Elijah's B12 shot

since it bypasses his gut entirely. So, I did exactly as you are considering and I am glad I did...I am confident that their enzymes and probiotic do not cause any issues and ALL of their supps and enzymes are SCD compliant...not as hard to do as it sometimes sounds on this listserve. The list of compliant supp components is on pecanbread....prepare to read MORE labels...:)My DAN doc recommends Enzym Complete DPP IV by Kirkman and it has been great for us....my baby started talking, crawling and pulling up within a couple of days on them, I kid you not. Crazy stuff. We use a probiotic from Klaire Labs that is SCD compliant and the zinc and vitamin C (buffered) are Kirkman, the rest are from Whole Foods.Hope that helps and is not too late to be useful!!Chrissy

Thank you for sharing your experience Chrissy. I've been wanting to try SCd on my son, but didn't think I had it in me to do both of us at the same time. But now I'm feeling more comfortable with the cooking. Since you went from GFCF to SCD, do you give the kids dairy? I've read on pecanbread all about introducing it slowly. One of my concerns is that I don't know if I could survive the diet without the yummy yogurt or cheese. So, could he? (Obviously, I know he could, but you know what I mean) How long before you saw a difference? Did you do the pecanbread stages? Hope I'm not being too intrusive!

Thank you-

SCD and autism

Hi, I just read your post on the yahoo group and I felt that maybe I could share my experience with my son and his autism, since you are considering putting your son on the diet.Elijah was diagnosed with high functioning autism (verbal but not very conversational, very stimmy, short attention span, didn't follow directions, academic trouble in school but well-behaved) and ADHD at six years old, in January of this year. We started on the GFCF diet immediately and I saw many improvements but they didn't really last and certainly didn't carry over into all the areas of his life...mainly we saw improvements at home, where he was comfortable and felt safe. Our wonderful DAN! doctor encouraged us to try SCD for him (and my other two boys, who are NT but have bowel issues) and I can't rave enough about the impact this diet has had on all of us. It has been transformative for my sweet son...he now WANTS to play outside, he interacts with friends and family in a 90% age appropriate way, he is able to articulate his feelings, his disappointments, his thoughts and plans...he MAKES PLANS, for goodness sake! He is again the personality plus kid that we knew as a baby and toddler who vanished at the age of four, to be replaced by a child that responded to all questions with "I don't know" or a flinch. The temper tantrums are gone..just gone. NOT decreased... GONE. His belly is no longer distended, his bm's are becoming more normal and are no longer urgent (often resulting in accidents before SCD). It has been extraordinary and we have only been on the diet two months. My other two are healthy now, with normal bm's, growing and thriving. If I weren't so amazed and delighted I would be crying because the change is that profound and so complete. The diet isn't easy, by any means, but my boys know it is "good for their bellies" and honestly, I think they are sick and tired of being sick and tired, you know? When we go to parties, which is all the time, they scarf down their hamburgers, peas and muffins, diluted juice with enzymes and off they run to play! They don't care that their food is different and they even have some treats their friends enjoy and request when they are over (mainly Stretch Island fruit leather...it is our "junk food"!!). I hope you try it for your son and I especially hope it is as helpful to him as it has been for us.Take care, I hope I am not being intrusive.Chrissy

Thanks PJ!You know, my kids are great and are very cooperative with these crazy ideas their mama has!!Subject: Re: SCD and autismTo: BTVC-SCD Date: Tuesday, July 28, 2009, 8:28 PM

I also wanted to add that I truly admire the parents like you who work so hard to keep their kids on this diet- especially an ASD kid since so many of them like their routines and don't like to have their favorite foods changed.

My kids are older, but they had their quirks growing up, and did not like it when I changed anything. They wouldn't eat anything new! Thankfully they got more flexible as they got older.

So my hat's off to you, and I especially like to read about the results you are getting with your kids as that must feel amazing.
