Guest guest
Hi All, I have searched through so many old messages in the archives trying to find information about where our Vit D and Vit B12 levels should be. I recently requested those tests to be done along with my Remicade infusion and just received the results. My Vitamin D level is 35.9 (normal range is 32.0-100.0 My B12 level is 690 and the range is shown to be >250 pg/mL Based on your previous experience and vast knowledge base, knowing you are not doctors, I am asking if these are good numbers or if they were your numbers, would you be supplementing? Thanks for any help,

Guest guest
I can speak to the B12 levels as I tested deficient 3 years ago. 690 is a good number, so doctors probably will say you don't need to worry about B12. But a lot depends on your symptoms, if your body just works better when you supplement B12. The range given on my lab results is 250 to 1000. When my B12 deficiency first showed up, my level was 190. Oral supplements didn't move the numbers, so I switched to monthly injections. With the monthly injections my B12 levels average 520; the tests generally fall within 2 to 3 weeks of my last B12 shot. So my doctors say that is fine, within the range. But I can always tell when it is time for my next injection, as I start stumbling and falling, losing my coordination, etc. So, your lab results are good but that doesn't mean it's high enough for your body. Perhaps your body works better with levels closer to 800. In the end, that is what you need to pay attention to. If you're not noticing balance and coordination problems, then you are probably doing just fine with B12 levels at 690. There should be B12 in a multivitamin and in a Bcomplex, so you may not need separate B12 supplements. But there are plenty of legal forms of B12 oral type supplements available. I found several legal brands in my local pharmacies, but my body couldn't absorb the oral form, alas. Sublingual B12 generally have illegals so I stay away from them. Kim M. Guest guest
I'm not sure about the b12 level but our D level should be at least 50-60 due to the IBD. Mine is at 32 and I take 4,000 IU D3 in drops a day, I'll test it again in month.
