Hi Group-

My name is Sherri and I just had my surgery on May 25 in South San

Francisco. My surgeon was Dr. Umbach and he removed my staples

yesterday and advanced me to Stage III (I never knew how good

scrambled eggs could taste!!!)

I started my journey last summer when Dr. Tatikunta in Roseville

agreed to refer me to the program. The waiting felt like forever in

the beginning, but the last two months moved quickly once Dr.

Stiles " fast-tracked " me. My starting weight was 320.5 on Feb 17th

and my weight one week before surgery was 287.5 (I wish I weighed in

on the day of my surgery but I was scheduled for 6:30 am and didn't

think about it). Today is my two week surgery anniversary and I

currently weigh 269.5, so I have lost 51 pounds since February.

My surgery went very well and I haven't had any complications so

far. When I woke up in the recovery room I felt much better than I

expected and only stayed in the hospital overnight. I have been

careful with my diet and haven't experienced any nausea or dumping.

I guess you can say that I'm a poster child for the surgical process.

I have enjoyed getting to know some of you by looking over the

posted messages and glad that this group is around for support and

information.

Since I am in the Sacramento area, I was hoping to get information

on the monthly post-op meetings that are held up here. Is there

anyone out there that can tell me how they are structured? Do we

still have to maintain and turn in journals?

Thank you,

Sherri

, I think you could answer this post. Maybe

LaWanda or Sandi can chime in. Sorry I can't help as

I go to Vacaville. In any event, CONGRATS!. Keep up

the good work.

Hi Sherri,

Congrats on your surgery. I met Dr. Umbach at orientation. He's

kind of cute! Dr Stiles fast tracked me, but it has become difficult

to get appointments to see surgeons because of the many surgeries

they are doing!

Welcome to the group and best wishes on your recovery!

Welcome Sharri! I also had Dr. Umbach. He's my hero! Actuially, I

like the whole SSF team. I'm almost two years post-op (07/30 will

be my second rebirthday) and just had my first round of

reconstructive plastic surgery. Welcome to the club! I never cease

to be amazed by the level of trust, openness, understanding, and

healing there is here.

I don't know anything about SSF's groups, as they do not allow patients of

other facilities to attend their meetings. All I know is that they are on

Response Road and that they are on Saturday, at the point West

Sherri--I see several other people already chimed in with answers to

your questions. However, my big suggestion is to look at the

calendar on the Yahoo web site (that is, if you read your posts

online, and not by e-mail).

Also, I highly recommend our SAWSSY group. We meet in Fair Oaks

every Thursday night from 7 to 9 PM. We have a great supportive

group.

Welcome to the other side!

Hi Sherri

I had dr gorrin but dr umbach assisted in my surgery, both very handsome drs i thought !

They have the meetings the 4th sat of each month, they are case management meetings, everytime i go the journal thing is off and on......i think they stress it more pre op than post op and they divide the group in two at a certain point. My dr was in sacaramento and he moved so i switched to a dr in vacaville so now my reminder cards come to go to the meeting in ssf but i go to the sacramento ones when i can , cause that is where my " surgery twin goes" and its less stress for me to drive there, this june i wont go cause i love nascar and am camping in sonoma for the race there GO JEFF GORDON! may was cancelled due to the holiday, maybe i will see you in july !

HI,

I'm not post op yet but what is the SAWSSY group? That would be perfect for me because my daughter goes to bible study during that time frame and I'm home alone, tempted to eat! Is it post ops only?

SAWSSY is a group of WLS patients, both pre-op and post-op that want

to get together every week. We're not all Kaiser patients; we have

some from various other health plans. Check the calendar or the

calendar announcements for time and place of our meetings.

I don't remember what the acronym stands for at the top of my head.

It's a support group, that meets every week, in Citrus Heights. It lasts

for two hours, seven to nine, and is comprised of some friendly

people. Right now, on a temporary basis, they are meeting at the Raley's

at Sunrise and San , but that changes after tomorrow night's

meeting. I'll let you know when I know where the next one will

be. LaWanda At 04:17 PM 6/8/05, you wrote:
