Guest guest
I'm taking my SCD son to NYC this week for a day trip while near the area visiting family. New Yorkers, can you suggest any diner/food stand/inexpensive restaurant in particular that we might visit while we're there? Someplace SCD locals might go to grab something to eat when you can't get to a grocery store. It would be great to have a place in mind before we go so that we don't have to make a big hunt while we're there. We'll pack food, but it would be nice to get him something local. He's eating at stage 3 to 4 -- can't have raw food yet. Thanks, Cathy 15yo son w. UC SDD 2007 > > Hi Everyone! > > My name is Alyse. Guest guest
Hey Cathy, Where are you guys gonna be staying? The supermarket Whole Foods is great little things so is Trader Joe's. If you are near the Union Square area you can go to a macrobiotic restaurant called " Souen " on 13th Street off University Place. You can order the broiled fish (a bit small) with the basil/pesto sauce (contains pine nuts) and instead of getting rice ask for extra steamed acorn squash. I forgo the veggies and I just get a whopping big plate of acorn squash. It's pretty reasonable cost wise for the quality and considering you are in NYC.. not many legal things on the menu but I have been happy eating this. http://www.souen.net/ Tell them you are allergic to Gluten and cannot eat grains. They are pretty good with kitchen contamination but alas, I do not know your level of sensitivity.. so keep that in mind. You can give them the SCD restaurant card too. They will disclose -all- of the ingredients in an item. Jodi
Guest guest
We're not staying overnight, but we plan to be all over Manhattan. Souen sounds great! I've always wanted to check out a Trader Joe's. I'll check to see where that is too. Thanks for your help Jodi! Guest guest
Hey Cathy, If you're going to Souen- you can check out Trader Joe's on 14th between 2nd and 3rd Ave. There is a Whole Foods right on 14th in Union Square too.. Right near the subway station! You cannot miss it. So it is all in the same area.. There is a great Juice bar in that area too called " Pure Food and Wine " there is a picture of a duck hanging. That is on 17th Street between Irving Place and 3rd Ave. It's all raw though. Have fun!
