Guest guest
I give myself a B12 injection every 4 weeks, which keeps my levels at mid-level (per blood work) and my low-B12 related symptoms minimal. I always know when it's time for another injection.... I give myself 1cc (1.0 cc) of the serum. That seems to be a standard amount. Kim M. Guest guest
When I started B12 shots at home, I injected myself with 1,000mcg (= 1cc) once a week for a few weeks, then went to once every 2 weeks for a few weeks, and now I am injecting once a month. My body would let me know when I needed to inject – mostly my hands would tingle (neurological symptom) and I would just feel poorly. The B12 shots were such a blessing for me! B12 is not a stand alone treatment, your body has to have the other B vitamins also, so I take a B Complex (Freeda brand) everyday. Since B vitamins are water soluble they are excreted from your body in urine, so, I break the B Complex tablet in half and take half in the morning and half in the evening. Guest guest
Hi, I am new to the group and SCD, but I've been on B12 injections for about 25 years. There was a 20 year period when I had no protein at all and that's when the doctor put me on them. I've mostly used massive injections of cyanocobalamin, but this last year my doctor told me I could experiment with methalcobalamin as well. Here's what my experience is. I take these shots of cyano usually once or twice a week if it's a really bad week. This really helps my energy levels. If I go two weeks, I really notice I'm dragging. I don't sleep well, and if I get a bad gut day and a bad sleep day at the same time and have something inflexible like a doctor's appointment, I am in trouble, so I try to time the shot for that day so I can get through what I have to. In other words, the cyano acts as a much-needed boost of energy mostly that day as well as baseline help for awhile. On the other hand, I don't get that from the methal; it seems to last more evenly. I don't know if this makes sense. Now that I am working my way into SCD, my energy deficit is not so bad, so I'm thinking perhaps I won't need these shots so often as time goes on.
