Guest guest
I, too had a companion when I had the sleeve gastrectomy ( not sure if this is spelled correctly). She was wonderful and took care of all my needs. Her name is Annie and I have her home number at home. Email me if you would like it. I plan to use her again when I have part 2 done (in the middle of July...unless I get pushed up). Terry

I was told the nurse is $400 a 8 hr shift and companions are $135--not sure how long that shift is though. I'm sure many people like Rich and Ellen will post responses because they all used nurses and companions. A 12 hour shift is more -- I think it is 135 (I hired for 8 hour shifts at a time). The nurse/companion office is on the second floor at Mt. Sinai -- turn around the corner from the gift shop. I don't have the exact room number, though. You must go and apply in person (the day of the surgery or before). I do not think they take phone reservations. You pay the aide at the end of their shift (I think this is true of the nurses as well) by check -- they will provide a receipt. The private aides were a real LIFESAVER for me. Not only to help me in and out of bed, etc. but also to procure clean gowns, breakfast in a timely manner, etc. Things you would think are taken care of routinely (such as fresh bedding/ gowns, rubdowns/washes) *may not* be at Mt. Sinai. The private aide really knows where everything is and will ensure that you are all 'hooked up' with necessities, etc. all the best, laparoscopic BPD/DS with gallbladder removal Dr. Gagner/Dr. Quinn assisting/Mt.
