One of this journey's lessons (patience) is a hard one for many of us

to accept. As an addict, I don't do delayed gratification well.

Don't be fooled. Some of us smile through our tears, and expend huge

amounts of energy mainaining a facade of " normalcy. " This journey, as

transforming physically, mentally, and emotionally as it is, is not a

magic solution. The surgery treats what for many of us is a symptom

(morbid obesity) but to fully enjoy the whole journey, many of us need

to discover and treat the underlying causes of that symptom. Use this

time to start your journey of self-discovery. Who knows, you may like

what you find. Also while you're waiting, keep posting! You'll never

find more bariatric expertice in one place.

: here is how it worked for me. I got the approval letter in early December. I was booked for an orientation in january. I had my first surgical consult in February, and then my nutrition class in March. I made goal in May (towards the end) and went in to see the doc (knowing I had reached goal), I think it was on the 28th or so...and they scheduled me for surgery on June 8th.

For some people, it went faster than it did for me. I had a lot going on, and my weightloss (10 percent, which is an absolute requirement for Richmond) was a bit elusive for a while.

As you can see...from approval to surgery it was six months. But, in a way, that whizzed by. Had I been more driven, I probably could have done it earlier...I only had to lose 26 lbs. But, I had some mental stuff to get through to...because I want to be a success on this. An ultimate success. So, I spent a lot of time on this board, and I also did a lot of work with my personal therapist...and really evaluated a lot of issues that came up. I have metabolic syndrome, which mkes losing weight very very difficult...so that part was a challenge. But it happened, and I just got home from the hospital yesterday.

The time flew by, really it did...because I used the time wisely. I didn't waste time. Instead, I really thought about all of the things that I needed to think about. For some, that wouldn't require as much time as it did me. I think that my friend Pam was only three to four months from start to finish.

The bottom line is that it is a journey...and every person takes a different amount of time...depending.

Good luck to you!!!

Yes they are sticklers...but its for our own benefit. The 10% really

teaches us soooo much. Journal everything you eat once you are

officially weighed in and begin the 10%...then take it to every

meeting!!!
