I love the soy nuts... they come in various flavors (honey roasted, lightly salted, which you may prefer, etc.) They are loaded with protein. Also, nuts are a really good source. I had soy nuts about 4 weeks out because I wasn't having any problems with other foods (at my nutritionist's ok). I didn't have nuts until later. Endamame (fresh soy pods) are also an excellent source. You may be able to find them frozen or fresh in the health food section... They can definately be found in Asian supermarkets. all the best, laparoscopic BPD/DS with gallbladder removal Dr. Gagner/Dr. Quinn assisting/Mt. Guest guest
Beth- don't buy the " jerky " sold in retail/walmart-type places.. its usually nasty. Go to a meat market or butcher shop that makes jerky- its only 10000% better tasting! I've had buffalo, turkey, venison, beef, & pork jerky, & thus far, my faves are venison, buffalo, & turkey. hope that helps... Guest guest
I love soy nuts too, BUT my Endocrinologist told me to avoid soy as much as possible because I have hypothyroidism and soy is known to cause thyroid replacement meds (Levoxyl, Synthroid, et all) to be ineffective. So if you have hypothyroidism, you might want to go easy on soy.

Guest guest
, Thanks for the info on soy nuts, and soy bean pods, sounds good! I'm not sure if whole soy beans are easily digested though, which would have an effect on how much protein is actually absorbed. I'll check into that. and thanks Rita, for the beef jerky recipie. I don't have a dehydrator. How long and at what temp. can i cook it in the oven? You specefied a self cleaning oven...any reason for that?
