Guest guest
Jodie: Congratulations on being post-op. I don't believe I have experienced what you are describing but one thing that I was told by Dr. Welker is that everyone is different. There are as many different feelings as there are patients. He did say that when the stomach is resected a part of it where lots of the muscle memory is located is removed. It can cause the muscles which propel the food down the esophagus, into the stomach and on into the upper intestine. It can cause all sorts of strange feelings until the remaining part of stomach learns how to properly process food and liquids. It's very possible that the feelings you are having are all part of that. One of the common feelings this causes is what feels like gas bubbling back up the stomach but which never makes it up as a burp. I have definitely felt that but all the strange stomach feelings appear to have past now at 4 months post. Regards. Here it is, the first post op question..... While swallowing liquids (especially thicker ones) are we supposed to feel it go allllll the way down the throat and feel it in the belly like it "spreads out"? Its like I can feel it every step of the way. Am I crazy? I've had no solids yet, just water, tea, Boost, jello and popsicles. And I didn't even start them until last night! I would honestly feel fine if I wasn't eating anything but I still keep drinking. It doesn't feel bad or anything, just funny! : ) Thanks!
