Guest guest
Is bacon on the intro diet? (I don't eat it, so I don't pay attention to when it is allowed )I thought on the intro, fried foods were not done. Also, with bacon- some of it is sugar cured, so you have to be careful with it. - what are you eating? At this point, you should be strictly on only intro foods. Try that and see how that works. Also, see what additives are in the bacon. I would not do fried foods at this point. See pecanbread.com for information on when to add certain foods. Hope you feel better. The next morning I had a normal stool, followed by diarrhea, watery and yellow. This has continued all day today. Feeling good this morning, I ate an egg and small piece of bacon for breakfast, but only chicken broth since then. My history is colon resection about 5 years ago and problems ever since. Any thoughts? Shouldn't the diarrhea clear up? What are others' experiences? What else did you eat since starting? What is your norm in the bathroom department? It is possibly die off, although it seems a bit soon for it - but not out of the question. http://www.pecanbread.com/new/begindiet1soup.htmlInitial Bad Reactions. Why do the die off reactions occur? The same toxins the gut pathogens have been giving off all along, which drive the kids into their world of autism... are all being released now, all at ONCE, as these bad guys bite the dust. Hopefully, you can think of it that way... it's not your child.... it's like your child's possessed by these bad guys who are DESPERATE to survive and are driving your child crazy. They WANT TO SURVIVE.... so they are sending your child messages to GO GET FOOD. Meaning, they want their Nutrigrain bars and their sugary cookies and all the other stuff that they've been thriving on all this time. They KNOW they will DIE if they don't get it.... so they are willing to go to desperate measures to influence their "host".... and break down your will to defeat them. This is a life or death struggle for them and they mean to win. You must make up your mind that your plan is to erradicate them from your child's body once and for all..... and determine you won't give in to them! How to decrease the severity of temporary initial symptoms.Gradually decrease the amount of starches and sugar at least a week before startingDo not use antifungals at the same time as the beginning of SCDTake a chelation break if you are doing chelation.List of possible die off temporary symptomsMost children will not have these symptoms. Flu Like Symptoms fevernausea and on rare occasions vomit.dizzinessachy joints and backchange in bowels (diarrhea or constipation)strange skin rashesrunny nose and funny coughheadachesbehavior changes/irritability/tantrums/short temperedsleep disturbancesThings you can do to make it more tolerable:Epsom Salt soaks in a warm tubActivated Charcoal Capsules for a brief time. Do not take it during meal times.Green tea has an incredible ability to neutralize some of the harmful effects from bacterial toxins. You might want to drink green tea before starting SCD and during the initial stage of SCD until the die of reactions subside.Chicken soup and bone broths have natural anti-inflammatory properties. This is important because the die off reaction is an inflammation response brought on by the increase in bacterial toxins. Click here to view recipes and info about the benefits of chicken soup and bone broths.Drink 1/4 teaspoon baking soda with a pinch of salt in a glass of water as needed (on an empty stomach). As the bacteria die off the toxins cause your pH to become acidic which makes you feel much worse. The baking soda buffers the acid. ( Tamaro)Slowing down the introduction of enzymes (some call this the "low and slow" method.Going slower in the introduction of the SCD probiotics and yogurt. You should wait before introducing these if you have a strong die off symptoms (www.pecanbread.com has ideas on introducing this yogurt)Following the directions in Chapter 9 and 10 in the introductions of foods. .Directions for doing the Epsom Salt baths:Start with 1 cup of salts in waist deep water and soak for at least 20 minutes. If this is tolerated go up to 2 cups of salts per bath. If it is not well tolerated (hyperness, irritability, whining), cut the dose to 1/2 a cup. or less until you get to a point it is tolerated. It indicates the person is detoxing too fast.

Any thoughts? Shouldn't the diarrhea clear up? What are others' experiences?> , You write that you had a resection 5 yrs ago, but you don't tell us what your dx is, if you are on any meds and what your problems have been for the last 5 yrs. That said, D doesn't go away overnight, which it sounds like you expect. Everyone is different, some people do see immediate improvement, but that could mean less frequency, less urgency, less pain, less bleeding, etc. It could take 3 weeks for your D to resolve or 3 months. I agree with PJ that you should stick with strict into while you are having D--chicken soup, bone broths--Bacon fried crisply is allowed once per week, but I would think it is a little hard to digest and you might want to wait to introduce it. Are you eating the 24 hour fermented yogurt? It is extremely helpful for D. Need to start with a little only to see how you react. Are you making home made chick broth and did you check the label to make sure the chicken you used did not have a 5% solution added? That is illegal and can cause problems for newbies. How did you cook your egg? Don't get discouraged--it takes some time for your gut to heal, esp if you've had issues for years. Welcome to the list. I don't have an official diagnosis. The resection was for a polyp that the doc thought was pre-cancerous. My meds are for bp and thyroid. The last five years have been up and down with diarrhea. At one point I thought it might be wheat intolerance and quit wheat for several years. This produced some improvement, but then the doc and I decided to do the blood test for celiac. I ate wheat for two days, had symptoms, and the test was negative. I thought " woohoo " and added wheat back in to my diet. Chronic diarrhea set in and I quit wheat again and got better although not 100%. I suppose this is like many people's stories, trying this, trying that. > > That said, D doesn't go away overnight, which it sounds like you expect. The egg was scrambled with a 1/4 t. of clarified butter. I'll get a better chicken tomorrow, but the " clean " chickens cost about $14 each! You would think if they did less adulterating they would be less Thank you to everyone who responded-I'm very grateful. Me, too! It wasn't until I'd been SCD for around 8-10 months that I could look back and realize how far I had come in that time that I felt as if I had gotten anywhere at all! Guest guest
Just made another kettle of soup, but I think it did have the 5% solution. I'm waiting for my yogurt maker to arrive. You would think if they did less adulterating they would be less I hear ya. You can buy natural or organic on sale, like I do, and also the chickens that say 3% water retained for moisture are OK--it's just the ones that have the 5% solution are not OK--that solution contains sugar of some kind, usually. I buy those with the 3% water as well. Yes, this diet can get expensive! I go to BJ's and buy in bulk, reading labels very carefully. Also when Whole Foods is having a sale, I buy in bulk and freeze. I don't know if you live near these kinds of stores. I also wait for sales at the local grocer. I ask at the counters for bones--believe it or not the grocery store doesn’t have bones unless the supplier sends them as most of their cuts are boneless! Also inexpensive is to buy necks and wings or drumsticks and use those for broth. So, it sounds like maybe the sugar in the chicken could have caused a problem. I found I got a little worse before I got better. On bad days, for 24 hours, I would have no solid food--mostly broth, very dilute apple juice. Then I would start to introduce very ripe banana mashed and the well cooked chicken, slowly. Each is different, just go slow and you will do great. Keep asking those questions!
