Guest guest
I'm still doing research and gearing up to start my son (and myself) on the SCD as soon as we return from vacation. There's one thing I can't seem to find out about though. We can't have dairy, so the SCD yogurt is out. (Please don't tell me that we might be able to tolerate it later - trust me, dairy is out.) I keep reading that yogurt is an important part of the program. And I've read that probiotics are discouraged. So how do we get the beneficial bacteria without probiotics? I'm a bit confused here. How do other dairy free SCD'ers do this? Thanks, Liz
Guest guest
Hi Liz,Um...I wouldn't say probiotics are discouraged. I think Elaine prefered that we get our probiotics from yogurt but if you can't tolerate dairy, you can't. Lots and lots of people here take probiotics for one reason or another. There are dairy free probiotics that are SCD legal. GI Pro Health makes a dairy free acidophilus and a dairy free saccharomyces boulardii, http://www.giprohealth.com/scdophilusnext.aspx and http://www.giprohealth.com/scdophilus10.aspx http://www.giprohealth.com/saccharomycesboulardii.aspxAnd Custom Probiotics also makes a dairy free acidophilus,http://www.customprobiotics.com/custom-probiotics-l-acidophilus.htmThere are also recipes for yogurt made from nut milk at, http://www.pecanbread.com/new/recipes/almondyogurt.html if you're interested. Hope this helps.Best wishes,Kim H.husband, , CD 1999, SCD 2002To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Thursday, August 6, 2009 8:16:55 PMSubject: Probiotics? Guest guest
What about yogurt made from nut milk or coconut milk? I'm not sure how advanced they are. Since there isn't any lactose to be eaten up, it takes a lot less time to prepare. Here is a link to instructions for Almond Milk yogurt from pecanbread.com. http://www.pecanbread.com/recipes/almondyogurt.html Misty Kimble CD - no meds SCD - 19 months > How do other dairy free SCD'ers do this? > > Thanks, > Liz
