Guest guest
Hi Tricia, Where in IL are you from? I live in Naperville. Sorry I don't have any answers (I just started this process myself).... Best wishes! Debbie in IL << Hello, all! I've been lurking for the past day or so...and thought it was about time to speak up. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading each and every post. So much information, so much fun and craziness!! I'm from Illinois, and have been researching WLS for over a year now. I saw the exclusion for WLS in our insurance policy, and didn't know at the time that I could fight it, so I gave up on the dream. I did try one more diet attempt (Atkins) on advice of my doc and I was successful in losing 50 pounds right away, but then...well, you know the story...it's creeping back on. I've regained at least 30 of those stinking pounds. That was enough to make me think again about WLS. We have a BTC close by and I'm scheduled for an initial consult there in about one week. However, since I've made that appt, I've come across Dr. R's site and WOW! am I excited! This is exactly what my husband and I have been looking for. We are especially encouraged by the fact that it is a Lap surgery, and that you all seem to have such quick recovery times. I need that as I've got 4 young children that I home educate. The thought of being practically helpless to recuperate from an open RNY did not appeal to me or my husband. This really seems to be an answer to my prayers! So, I am now in the process of going thru the 12 steps to be approved for the surgery. My biggest hurdle will be the insurance company as they have a specific exclusion in their policy for anything related to the treatment of morbid obesity. I'm not sure how my PCP is going to feel about me wanting this either, but I plan to fight tooth and nail for this surgery. But mostly I'm asking God to provide a miracle... that these things will all fall into place. I really feel that He will provide a way. I do have a couple of questions... *Do you think my having a hernia repair as a baby (under 1 year old) will disqualify me from being a candidate for the surgery? *I'm thinking I should still keep my appt with BTC, as a further form of research, and wouldn't it help in regards to my fight for insurance approval? (I know they won't pay the fee for the appt, but it shows that I'm willing to spend $$ out of my pocket) *I am concerned about reports of bile reflux problems. Anyone care to share their experiences with that? *I'm having to gather my medical information from several sources...some I haven't been able to track down yet. I do remember several years ago having some tests run and the doc called me about an abnormal liver function test. I never went in about that (I know, shame on me!). I now know from my research, that liver function can be damaged from obesity. And losing weight quickly, which happens with MGB, can further add to that. Does anyone have an experience in this area they care to share with me. I don't have my records yet from that doctor, but this is really concerning me now. Anyway, I've shared my story and asked way too many questions! Sorry about that. I look forward to getting to know you better, Tricia in IL >>

Guest guest
Hi Tricia, That is how I used to spell my name, However there were to many other Tricia's. It gets confusing in my Bizz..lol I have had no reflux, I was able to Cruz around the mall 3 days after surgery. I took the first 2 days catching up on some loooooong needed sleep. I too did the Adtkins thing lost 25 gained back 50 yikes that stinks. This is forever I hope. At first you are obsessed with it, getting all the info together and soaking up all the experiences. Then your day comes and it will be different from everyone else's, However it is over so fast and you are on you feet at home saying hmmm did I really have anything done? lol Then you have to set up a routine for the first month of the supplement ritual, and carafate..and tums. Once you have that down it took me about a week to stop whining about it..hehe Now I am just shy of two weeks out and still have a lot to learn!!! I just follow a..lol sorry, could not help myself. Now it is trial and error. Just do not have ice cream with sugar that is a for sure dump! Some people can eat more and some can eat a big variety at first. Im not one of them and Flo is even less adventurous. But eventually everyone I have met can eat almost everything, and I mean everything except Ice cream with sugar..I don't think we need that anyway there is still cake..mmm My favorite..hint. Well, I have rambled enough. Good luck on your wonderful, exciting can't sleep, can't wait journey.. Guest guest
Hi, I homeschool, too. I have 6 children. One is about to go off to college, and one is under a year, so I really only have 4 to teach at the moment. My last diet attempt (which was also on the advice of a doctor) was also a high protein diet (like Atkins) and I lost 22 pounds very quickly, but of course it is all back, plus more. I cannot put my body (or my spirit) through that again, so I am pursuing the MGB. I have researched it carefully, and am convinced it is the answer for me. My family doctor is very supportive of the MGB now that I have told him all about it. I don't know the answers to all your questions because I am pre-op too, but probably the hernia repair will not be a problem (You can email Dr. R personally and ask about that. I emailed him about two surgeries I had to see if they would be a problem, and he quickly answered that they wouldn't.) I have seen several posts about bile reflux. It seems that most people don't have a problem with that, and if they do, it seems to only happen to them a couple of times soon after surgery, and then it quits. You should probably get your current doctor to do liver function tests again to see how you are doing now. Hopefully some one else will answer you about this because I believe there have been people on this list who have had liver problems and have had/are going to have the MGB. Good luck to you! This list is a great place. Sara The Bardells wrote: > Hello, all! > I've been lurking for the past day or so...and thought it was about time > to speak up. Guest guest
Hi Nancie I get tingling occasionally in my hands, feet or face. I don't get the dizziness. My fatigue is worse than my pain, so I'll leave the pain question for someone else. Darcy

Guest guest
-Hi , You would think with all of different symptoms with this disease something in the tests our doctors do would come back abnormal. I get just about every symptom, usually mildly, at different times. Most of the time I will have mild neck pain but usually always have mild fatigue. I have had a few bad flares. I only have 2 kids, how do you manage? Well just wanted to welcome you to the group. -- In @y..., Nancie Taube wrote: > Hi All, > My name is Nancie, I've very recently found out that I > have fibromyalgia. Guest guest
Hi Nancie! Very nice to meet you and welcome to the group! I hope you will like it here. Email me anytime you need to chat. This illness is very difficult. And it certainly doesn't help when you don't have a support system for you. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. Soft hugs, Annie C.
