Guest guest
I'm new here and wanted to say " Hi. " I found the SCD doing research for a diet for IBS (with C not D). I've had bronchitis and required antibiotics at least a couple of times a year all my life. I have developed allergies to three major classes of antibiotics and my doctor recommended immunotherapy shots to get over the allergies to the antibiotics because there are so few they can give me and it could be life threatening if I develop any more allergies or encounter a resistant bacterial infection. I have had pneumonia three times, sinusitis twice, and strep twice in the last eighteen months alone. I am so sick and tired of being sick and tired. I read Elaine's book and it made so much sense. I've been on a vicious cycle of illness, antibiotics and more illness. I knew I had to try the SCD. So here I am. Also, I was recently diagnosed with ADD-inattentive and I am hoping it will help me with that too. My doctor said I was self medicating with caffeine and carbs. I bought all the SCD cookbooks I could find on Amazon and I am learning a lot from reading all your old posts! Thanks so much, everyone! Guest guest
I'm new here and wanted to say " Hi. " Welcome to the list! I found the SCD doing research for a diet for IBS (with C not D). I'm an IBSer, myself, with a loooong history of respiratory infections. I used to alternate between soft, mushy stool with sudden urgency, and soft mushy stool packed up that didn't want to come out, even when I really, really felt like I needed to go. Respiratory Issues R Us in this household -- my husband has a history of asthma past age 12, and I usually had bacterial-related respiratory infections every 3-4 months. My last one was in April; prior to that, it had been around 14 months. Sounds like me! Elaine's book DOES make sense! Also, I was recently diagnosed with ADD-inattentive and I am hoping it will help me with that too. My doctor said I was self medicating with caffeine and carbs. Yes, ADD also runs in my family. SCD is not an easy diet at times. The thing which has kept me with it, though, was something which my husband said to me Christmas night, two months after I started SCD. ADD/ ADHD runs in my family. As my gut issues got worse, so did my ADD/ADHD. Doing Christmas dinner has always been a trial for me and I know entirely too well what's meant when Moms on both Pecan Bread and this list talk about kids going into melt down because I have been there myself. During my first, chaotic SCD Christmas, there were a number of things which went wrong (imagine trying to make up your recipes as you go along for a feast being served to the whole family, plus four other couples who have been invited at the last minute...). In other years, I'd have gone to pieces. On SCD, I swore, said, " Dammit, that didn't work, here, I'll do this instead... " and kept going. I never noticed. My husband, however, did. And pointed it out to me. And then added, " I like SCD. It's nice to to have the woman I married back. " I bought all the SCD cookbooks I could find on Amazon and I am learning a lot from reading all your old posts! Thanks so much, everyone! Glad the archives are helping you! I can highly recommend Lucy's cookbook, if you haven't added it to your stash. It's deceptively simple -- and so are her recipes.
