Guest guest
Hi , You can get poor nursing care anywhere, but it sounds like Mt Saini is having many complaints. You arent without options, such as requesting to speak with the nursing supervisor of the unit you are admitted to and sharing your concerns. The DS surgeons associated with Mt Saini are amongst the very best, and can also be your advocate for your care. If the situation were critical, I cant imagine they'd not schedule surgeries, or that they wouldnt take their business elsewhere. So maybe it wont be the best, but hopefully it will be safe nursing care. Also, many hospitals have funds available to help patients who dont have the money for their health care, check with the finance office for those options. They almost always will arrange payments, low ones, as it is better than getting nothing at all from the patient. Best of luck to you, be well, Meli Message: 3 Date: Tue, 03 Apr 2001 18:30:09 -0000 Subject: Pre OP and worried Hi everyone, I have a consultation with Dr. Herron on May 3rd but am becoming anxious about the hospital stay at Mt. Sinai. At this stage, I am still trying to determine whether or not I'll be able to have the surgery due to finances. I am on medicare. Although the office assured me that Dr. Herron does accept Medicare, it doesn't pay well and leaves a lot unpaid. I will need to find a way to meet those bills. What really concerns me, however, are the comments people are making about the nursing care they have, or it seems, haven't received while staying at the hospital. I am not in the position to be able to afford a private duty nurse or companion. Since I am travelling into NYC from NJ, my family will not be able to be with me much, so I will be alone a great deal of the time. I am I going to find myself in a terrible situation? I have options open to me to have the RNY procedure, but I don't want to go that route. I don't think I could live with it, even facing my current health situation. This is very distressing to me. I'm trying to remain positive and keep the faith, but it is hard. Regards, /cherie63
Guest guest
To those who are nervous about going to Mt Sinai without aides. You will be fine without aides but they make the recovery so much easier. THe regular hospital nurses are great but very busy. I like fresh sheet every day and I wanted alot of ice chips my supply never dwindle with the aide. I had alot of scar tissue so getting up was diffficult. Would I have been able to do it on my own, sure but it was much easier with the nurses aides. Whether or not u have nurses aides should not even come as a matter of whether to have the surgery, I did it 12 weeks ago and tomorrow is my 3 month checkup. ANy regrets, not a one!!! So come on over to the switch side! Anne Dr Gagner Mt Sinai
