Guest guest
I have been taking prednisone now for about 7 months, but I am down to 3 mg, will decrease to 2 mg tomorrow (decreasing by 1 mg every 3 weeks). I have been off and on prednisone for the past 2 and a half years though really. I was on Pentasa (mesalazine) as well, but it played up with my kidneys so stopped it. Hoping I can be medication free after finishing prednisone, thanks to SCD. However, I have had to take blood pressure medication for the last 4 months. I am on a calcium channel blocker, Amlodipine Maleate 10 mg for this, but its only brought bp down to 140/100. I really believe the prednisone has done this! Would this be true???????? The only time I had a high blood pressure problem before this was in the last week of my pregnancy in 2006. Has anyone had a similiar problem from prednisone and if so, how long did it take for blood pressure to come down after stopping prednisone???? I am hoping, so hoping, to be totally med. free, I don't like taking drugs. Thanks, Naomi UC 3 yrs Prednisone 3 mg Amlodipine maleate 10mg (for high blood pressure)
Guest guest
Hi, I was on prednisone off and on (mostly on because I'd flare as soon as I tapered) for several years. I had to really watch my salt and sugar. Did your doctor give you a guideline? I had all kinds of problems with pred, I've read support forums where other people had my problems and worse. Have you googled any to ask around? Sometimes that's better than asking the doctor. If you are doing SCD mega strict, just watch salt intake, use spices or stock to flavor food instead. Maybe after you are totally tapered and off it awhile, your bp will start dropping. Sorry couldn't help more but there's others who've been on pred here I'm sure. I've never gotten to that small a doseage, I usually get to five and stop. Seems like a good idea--your method of tapering. Guest guest
Hello friend, I have also taken Prednisolone several times, esp during flaire-up of Colitis and Asthma, Yes, you are right, Prednisolone does induce high BP, I am also taking high BP meds, and the safest is Repace-H, with no side-effects, pl try this med Repace -H. It can be that soon after stopping the Pred, your high BP might not go away. I also dream of going drug-free one day, but impossible, that might do more harm than good esp for those with high BP, as high BP is a silent- killer, so even if I stop other meds , I can never stop the high BP med. Not necessarily. One thing I strongly recommend to anyone dealing with high blood pressure and/or high cholesterol is to have a sleep test. Hidden sleep apnea can cause both of these things. And when the sleep apnea is properly treated, the blood pressure goes back down and often, the cholesterol normalizes, too. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
