I Assume Caramel Coloring is Illegal

Is caramel color illegal? I assume so, since it looks like it is made from glucose and dextrose.I just bought a jug of black tea from Trader Joe's and was dismayed to see the caramel coloring added.

Back to Tejava, which is tea and tea only, AFAIK. Or just brew my own.--
